Certain cultures and religions believe the human race rose from dust, from the trees, from the earth.
Unwoven is a collection drawn out of the essence of this belief. In this collection, hand-woven raffia pieces are merged and draped across the human body to create sculptural and visually appealing garments, the spacing and differing types of raffia contributing to the visual weight of the collection. Raffia is the dried version of palm leaves and is therefore biodegradable and environmentally sustainable. This collection reimagines the constructs of women’s clothing and explores the value of confusingly constructed clothing, and also the deconstructive nature of clothing as snaps are used to bring the woven raffia pieces together.
