About Ene Okoh:
Background/Education:
Growing up around fashion conscious individuals in Lagos, Nigeria, Ene grew an intimate relationship with textiles, prints and clothing designs and the important place style takes in human lives; this catalyzed her need to contribute to society through fashion. She received her Associates degree in Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles through which she gathered a preliminary knowledge of the creative and technical aspects of the industry. Following the Associates program, she went further by enrolling in the Bachelors program to gather more knowledge and to flex her creative muscles.
She received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Design and has dipped her tentacles into Fashion Design, Fashion Styling and Photography.
Design Philosophy:
“We are the most important medium artists have.” - Ene Okoh.
Through social upbringing, humans grow an understanding and recognition of identities and lifestyles. We learn to separate ourselves into groups, most times internally (and externally) marginalizing identities which do not agree with and parallel our own; which we see as inadequate. When we allow ourselves to dismantle all separative beliefs we’ve been taught and carry around with us, we will discover the beauty in our differences, our similarities, our stories. Design must have the ability to shake the vessels of the mind, reinforce positive beliefs and confuse rootless divisive beliefs.
The Synthesis of Ene Okoh’s Design Philosophy is the Reification of Social and Cultural Concepts Into Tangible Garments In Order to Discover and Empower.
Using Textiles, Materials and the Human body to make Garments which Represent Further Ideas of Humanity and Celebrate the Essence of Us.
